Amina Philbert, Windsor Family & Divorce Lawyer

Amina graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in International Relations and Development Studies, with a concentration in Economics and a Master of Arts Degree in Political Science. Amina obtained her Juris Doctor (Law) Degree from the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at the Toronto Metropolitan University. As part of the curriculum, Amina completed a placement at the Ontario Court of Justice, where she had the unique opportunity to work closely with judicial officials, and meaningfully engage in multiple legal issues.

Prior to embarking on her legal career, Amina worked as an advocate in the not-for-profit sector. In this capacity, she primarily served newcomers and marginalized communities. Amina assisted families and individuals with a myriad of issues related to housing, employment, family, immigration, language skill acquisition, financial literacy, and gender-based violence.

Amina developed an interest in family law after enduring an acrimonious divorce, and contentious battle for custody of her young daughter. She recognized how essential it was during that stressful time to retain a family lawyer who understood, cared, and could effectively advocate for her needs and those of her child. Furthermore, she recognized the importance of having peace of mind during this life-altering situation. Consequently, Amina is very passionate about helping families and individuals navigate their legal issues after the breakdown of a relationship.

Giving back to the community is also important to Amina. She sits on the Board of Directors of Cook-Up Inc., a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to assisting early-stage food entrepreneurs – primarily from marginalized communities – to launch and scale their businesses. Additionally, Amina enjoys volunteering with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), where she completes tax returns for families and individuals with modest incomes and simple tax situations.

When not ‘lawyering,’ Amina enjoys travelling, going to the beach, working out, and spending as much time as possible with her family, friends and kitty, Ash.
